Åre (pronounced ore-eh) is a locality and one of the leading Scandinavian ski resorts situated in Åre Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden with 1,260 inhabitants in 2005. It is however, not the seat of the municipality, which is Järpen. 25% of the municipal industry is based on tourism, most notably the downhill skiing and Downhill cycling resorts in Åre and Storlien. In the wake of it have grown hotel-facilities with recreational and shopping opportunities.

The ski lift system is on the Åreskutan mountain with its highest peak at a height of 1420 meters, which can be reached by a snowmobile lift. The village and ski area are accessible by bus and train. The nearest airport is Åre Östersund Airport.

The Freestyle FIS World Cup Åre 2009 event went very well. Spectacular skiing, a true freestyle spirit, no injuries – everything you can ask for, really. So we'll be doing it again next year. Se you all in the moguls here in Åre March 12–13 2010.

The Course

The racecourse is situated in the Slalombacken piste, a mere 200 metres from Åre Square. The course will have a length of about 210 metres, 22 metres width with an average gradient of 26.5 degrees. The ladies’ pace time is estimated at about 24 seconds whereas the men should manage it in about 21 seconds.

The challenging course will again be designed by Janne Tjärnström, Leif Persson and Anders Fahlén.
