Bringing school children back to ski activities (Bulgaria)

Overall Focus

  • To bring the school children in a new environment
  • To attract talented young athletes into skiing

Since 5 December 2008 the Bulgarian Ski Federation successfully runs the project “Learn to ski”. The project target is to bring 3.800 children from Sofia to Vitosha mountain for 4 days skiing lessons. Each skiing session finish with a ski competition of the youngsters. With the support of the National Agency for Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education exists fixed planning for ski lessons for children every week until 30 March 2009. The ski lessons are part of the physical training in the official school program. All schools in Sofia are participating.

Target Group

  • Children between 7 and 10 years


  • Bulgarian Ski Federation
  • Cablecar company Vitosha Ski (provides the lift cards and the ski training for free)
  • Ministry of Education
  • National Agency for Youth and Sport
  • Milka (Sponsor)
  • Atomic (providing ski equipment for the children)


Start: 05.12.2008 until end of March 2009
