The FIS[1] Bring Children to the Snow [2] project is an international, multi-year campaign to promote snow activities as the number one leisure choice for kids and the youth in winter.

  • The vision of the campaign is to enable all children between the ages of four and fourteen to have the chance to experience the fascination of snow.
  • The campaign aims to raise enthusiasm for snow among children aged 4 to 14 (divided in two groups – 4-9 years / 9-14 years) and their families. 'Fun in the snow, fun on the snow' is the motto at the heart of the campaign. The campaign is about bringing newcomers to snow and keeping those with initial experience there. It is not focused on generating competitors for any particular FIS discipline.

  • There has been a general decline in youth participation in snow sports in most countries in recent years which shows no signs of reversal. FIS as the international federation in charge of skiing with an excellent reputation can play a significant role in promoting its sports towards the younger generations.
  • The campaign should take the form of a common international communications campaign with enabling activities implemented at the national level. The implementation is undertaken by the National Ski Associations with FIS providing tools, such as the campaign branding/label and promotional ideas and shared best practices. To ensure a common international message, FIS should take the lead for driving the communicative dimension while the National Ski Associations, given the national differences, should take the lead for the activity itself. The four campaign characters (a girl and a boy for each of the two target groups 4-9 and 9-14) are joined together under the collective brand of the FIS SnowKidz.

  • The FIS SnowKidz are easily approachable super heroes who take care of children and youngsters anywhere in the snow, all around the world. The positive side effect of these super heroes is that they are not only great for identification and motivation but can also help reduce fears or anxieties in children's minds connected with snow or snow activities.

  • The National Ski Associations (NSA) play a very important role for the campaign’s success. The campaign supports the ongoing projects in different countries and integrates them into the worldwide campaign as well as providing additional ideas. The FIS Wiki is the main tool for knowledge transfer and sharing best practice.

[edit] FIS SnowKidz Award

  • As part of the ‘Bring Children to the Snow’ campaign, the FIS Member National Ski Associations (full and associate members) are every second year invited to submit their projects to compete for the ‘FIS SnowKidz Award’. This award aims to recognize and promote the best examples of bringing children to the snow in varying national circumstances.
  • The ‘FIS SnowKidz Award’ will be presented every second year during the International Ski Congress. The first award is to be granted at the 47th International Ski Congress in Antalya (TUR) in 2010.

  • As a next step in the multi-year FIS campaign ‘Bring Children to the Snow’, FIS is seeking to encourage a large number of
    children and their families to be part of the World Snow Day, a snow festival consisting of various national activities taking place simultaneously the world over.

[edit] 10 FIS Rules for Conduct in FIS SnowKidz Design

  • As part of the international FIS Campaign 'Bring Children to the Snow' and in close cooperation with the FIS Recreational Committee, FIS is happy to present the 10 FIS Rules for Conduct (for skiers and snowboarders) in the FIS SnowKidz design. In this new design, the campaign FIS SnowKidz heros Pinty, Slopy, Misty and Jib demonstrate to the young generations how to act correctly and safely on the slopes. The National Ski Associations can benefit from these attractive designs in three languages - English, French and German. FIS is pleased to provide the different templates for a poster and a pocket guide, ready for local printing and distribution.[13]
